He was easy enough to hide as a child, as he looked decently human, save for his eyes and pointed ears. Thankfully, in a bustling society of many varying species, he could pass as a mix of Rilinquin or Felinian— pointed ears and bright eyes were nothing rare. But they knew soon enough his dark markings would come in, and he’d get taller, something they couldn’t hide; attributes that would draw an eye. They weren’t entirely sure how much time they had, but from articles and books written on the Avari, they guessed his markings would start to show around age ten.
The boy, called “Kon” to avoid any suspicion his full name could bring, was fast to pick up on things. They prepared for the worst from a young age, mapping out the route to Calka, as Rose had suggested. "
